Dr. Bassem Eldaif is a urologist based in Melbourne.

Q: Why did you go into this career?

A: Enamored by the anatomy and function of the heart in my first year of medical school, I was drawn to the field of cardiology. Once immersed in my clinical rotations, I had a taste of the surgical lifestyle; the fast-paced environment and personal gratification of making a difference in the health and lifestyle of patients. Urology became my passion and the field of medical specialty I wanted to practice. I admired the different facets of the medical arena from urinary cancers, kidney stones, urinary problems, infertility and sexual function.

Q: What services do you provide?

A: Specialized urologic care in addition to noninvasive treatments for kidney stones, enlarged prostate, sexual dysfunction and minimally invasive surgical techniques for issues ranging from kidney cancer to incontinence.

Q: What procedures do you have specialty training or experience in?

DaVinci robotic surgeries for prostate and kidney cancer.

DaVinci robotic reconstructive surgeries for strictures of the ureter, kidney, and bladder cancer Greenlight Laser, UroLift procedures among other for enlarged prostate (BPH).

Minimally invasive procedure for kidney and bladder stones.

Cryoablation therapy for kidney and prostate cancer.

Kidney stones Minimally invasive procedures and preventative services.

Q: What makes this area of medicine fulfilling for you?

A: Being able to provide expertise and personalized care, which is much appreciated by patients, their families and referring physicians. I enjoy spending time with patients educating on their diagnosis and treatment plan options while addressing questions and concerns. I believe giving the patient genuine, compassionate and honest reassurance in their most vulnerable moments is ultimately the most fulfilling feeling any doctor can ask for.

Q: What do you do when you are not practicing medicine?

A: In my free time, I’m an amateur guitarist and keyboard player, with a passion for salsa dancing. I’m multilingual and fluent in English, French and Arabic. I proudly donate my time and expertise serving on medical mission trips to Africa and South America.
